Event for the Community

Recently Terry Tremain, Chair and Don Lister, Vice Chairperson of the Nyngan Ag Expo met with Jenny Griffiths of the Nyngan Health Service . "On behalf of the Nyngan Ag Expo committee, I would like to say how pleased we are that our donation for the purchase of an air pressure mattress will result in better health, quality of care and comfort for those patients who are bed ridden for long periods of time at the Nyngan Hospital."

Donation to Nyngan Health Service

The 2011 "Essential Energy" Nyngan Ag Expo will celebrate its 19th year when the gates of the Nyngan Showground open at 9am on Saturday 6th August.

It will also be a celebration of 19 years of voluntary work by people across the Nyngan district who have donated their time and injected such enthusiasm and dedication to make Expo the exciting and diverse event we enjoy on the first Saturday of August each year.

This year will also be a celebration for volunteer and stalwart Max Tremain who has been a committee member since Expo began in 1992. "It has been a great experience and each year has been getting bigger and better. There hasn’t been a backwards step. Our first Expo had four exhibitors. One of those was the Parisi Brothers from Cobar and they participate every year. They have haven’t missed one!"

Max Tremain

The Nyngan Ag Expo works in conjunction with other voluntary groups, which proves to be beneficial to each organisation and in turn the local community. Expo is pleased to again be working with the local SES who coordinates parking and the ladies from the Nyngan Golf Club who welcome everyone through the gate.

Another long term icon of the Expo is the ICPA (Isolated Children’s’ Parents Association) Fashion Parade. Each year they bring the latest in fashions and provide refreshments and nibbles prior to the event. Expo supplies the parade with the location, chairs, tables, stage, sound system, temporary dressing rooms and promotion for the ICPA to hold what has become their biggest annual fundraiser. The ICPA is a key organisation to families across the district.

Terry Tremain takes the Chair of the Nyngan Ag Expo for 2011

Chairman’s Report

“What a success”

“Last years, Country Energy Nyngan Ag Expo (now Essential Energy) exceeded all expectations with 240 exhibitors, (up 50 exhibitors on last year) all contributing to our success and the added benefit of the Radio 2DU outside broadcast attributed to in excess of 3500 visitors through the gate, our appreciation goes to the Bogan Shire Council for their valued sponsorship of the broadcast. The grounds were in fantastic condition, alive and abuzz with excitement thanks to a brilliant day with a great crowd, many successful exhibits and continued support from our enthusiastic sponsors” Our surveys indicated that 75% of those attending heard the advertising and promotional campaign coordinated with 2DU.

“With an increased number of exhibitors across the majority of interest areas, the agriculture section alone was filled with more cattle, sheep, machinery and farming industry businesses. Next year we hope the Expo will attract additional businesses from across the region for the benefit of everyone within our rural community.”

I am extremely proud of the effort my voluntary “committed” committee put behind this event to ensure its success. Each member of the committee is responsible for a particular division of the expo, David Smith, ensured that the Sheep exhibition was the most successful to date with 38 sheep breeders displaying their particular breeds. Don Lister worked tirelessly with the exhibitors,(as site manager) and the staff of the Bogan Shire to achieve an exciting display of machinery and exhibitors of whom 80% have already committed to attending the 2011 Ag Expo. David Butler and Chris Elder, who sadly couldn’t be with us on the day contributed greatly to both the Cattle exhibitors and the ICPA fashion parade. A letter of appreciation was received from the ICPA committee for Ag Expos financial contribution to the success of one of their biggest fund raisers for the year.

Jodie Stewart continues all year, to keep a true record of all the financials for Expo and presents these records to Hugh Martel for auditing. Kylee Pearce coordinates the children’s activities, this year Rod Dewhurst ably took the reins and coordinated the farming demonstrations. Jamie Fisher ensured that the vital area of
OH&S was within the requirements; Col Gillespie contributed greatly of his time and muscle with the “setting up” and “taking down” of all the areas which were within Ag Expo responsibility.

To Nicole Klante the responsibility of media and marketing - excelled as always, we all gave consideration to the possibility of the fact that there may have been an “expo baby” on the day. Angie Kennedy solely takes the responsibility of holding the license for the successful food and wine marquee and to Jenny Deacon, Glad Eldridge, Barb Muldoon ,Dr Jim Brown (our Public Officer) and Mary Lamph whom all continue steadfastly to contribute to meetings and of their valued input to all committee decisions.

To Max Tremain, our patriarch and the longest serving member of our Committee, special thanks for 18 years service to the Ag Expo committee and the community.

Last but not least a big thank you to our BOSS and administrator Robyn, who does a great job in getting things done, working long hours all year to coordinate this major event for us.

To date expos commitment to the community has been achieved by donations to the Nyngan SES, Nyngan Golf Club Associates Committee, Bogan Shire Council and Care West. On the day of expo we contribute to local organisations by supplying sites – free of charge to promote their organisations, these included – The Royal Far West, Nyngan SES, Nyngan Public School P & C group, Nyngan Fire Brigade, The Police Rural Crime Prevention Division, Antique Engine groups from Nyngan, Molong and Wellington, Nyngan High School and The Nyngan Rural Fire Brigade.

We were extremely fortunate that the weather was kind and the day pleasant for all attending; our appreciation goes to the sponsors, exhibitors, and people who supported the event.

I have enjoyed my fourth year as the Chairman of Expo, first in 2005-2006, and then in 2009 and 2010. We are looking forward to an even bigger and better Ag Expo in 2011; with 98 exhibitors already committed we are well on our way.

Terry Tremain

2010 ‘Country Energy’ Nyngan Ag Expo

Agriculture on show!

With over 215 exhibitors on over 270 sites at the Nyngan Showgrounds, this year is shaping up to be even bigger than last year’s record breaking ‘Country Energy’ Nyngan Ag Expo.

On Saturday 7th August, visitors will have more agricultural sites to visit and with businesses such as NAB Agribusiness, Robert Handsaker Ford, Parisi Motorcycles, Ecosmart, Landmark, Fargo, Telstra, Martel Accounting, Rabobank, & Special One Grain, the Expo will provide the perfect platform for you to find out more about how and which products and services can assist you at home and with your business

Industry and Investment NSW will speak from the Expo Demonstration Paddock at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm regarding their onsite trial. Six varieties of wheat including Crusader, Eaglehawk, Gregory, Lincoln, IPB05/2148 and Sun44H in addition to barley variety Hindmarsh, were sown on Friday 16th July.

Three strips of each variety were sown. The first untreated placed at approximately 25mm depth, second untreated at approximately 45mm and the third treated with triadimenol (at a rate of 150g per 100kg of seed) was sown at approximately 45mm depth. The intention of the trial is to show what affect the seed dressing triadimenol might have on seed emergence and the length of the coleoptile growing from the seed.

The triadimenol was applied at a higher rate than usually recommended as it then provides the plant with higher protection from stripe rust. Preparation of the area included spraying on Friday 16th July with glyphosate (2L/ha) and carfentrazone (50ml/ha), and on Tuesday 20th August with paraquat (1.6L/ha)

Visit the Industry & Investment NSW site to have your questions answered and to obtain more information on livestock, rangelands, agronomy research and agronomy advisory services.

The Central West Catchment Management Authority’s photography competition is open and with this year’s theme of ‘Droughts & Flooding Rains’ there should be some great entries. The CW CMA’s aim is to exhibit an impressive collection of images that capture the magnificent landscapes and people that make the Central West Catchment a great place to live, plus it is open to everyone!

The CW CMA is a proud supporter of the Nyngan Ag Expo as it provides a great opportunity to showcase services and promote natural resource initiatives. New exhibitor Thompson trading will have the Davis Starlifter on show. It is an award winning dual purpose tool to make life on the land just that little bit easier. It minimises back strain as the Starlifter enables you to elevate logs, and execute the cut in one smooth action with the operator remaining in an upright position. It also lifts starposts vertically out of the ground alleviating bending damage and consequently saves the cost of post replacement. It also allows adjustments to be made while the fence is still intact.

Country Energy take community support to great heights

The Country Energy Nyngan Ag Expo will celebrate its 18th year in 2010 and the local committee is expecting the great season to bring record crowds and exhibitors to the Nyngan showground to enjoy this diverse and entertaining event.

Country Energy has supported the expo from day one, and in 2010 the electricity supplier will continue to be the events major sponsor.

"Country Energy is local, we are based here and we live here too, it is important for us to support our local communities and groups like the Nyngan Ag Expo committee that are focussed on creating events that bring continued economic benefits to the region," said Country Energy’s regional general manager Pete Halliwell.

"The Nyngan Ag Expo has gone from strength to strength, the event has stood the test of the harsh drought and it’s been a pleasure to stand beside a committee that is so committed to their region," said Pete.

"Our community sponsorship program gives regional organisations the opportunity to access financial support that can make all the difference to their event, and in the long run creates ongoing benefits for not only that group but the entire region," said Pete.

Nyngan Ag Expo coordinator, Robyn Harris said Country Energy is a good corporate citizen that invests in the community; they understand how valuable our event is to the region and have always helped us make it as successful as possible.

"They have also helped us make it as environmentally friendly as possible," added Robyn. "This year for the fourth year running Country Energy will be offsetting all energy used at the expo with green energy that is purchased from renewable sources like wind or solar generators."

As in past years Country Energy will also be a major exhibitor at the expo, Pete said the Expo gives Country Energy a unique opportunity to speak face to face some of their more remote customers.

"Our display will focus on energy efficiency and safety; our Nyngan field service centre team will also be demonstrating some outdoor network maintenance techniques, scaling 11 metre power poles at the site."

"We will also be profiling some of the network projects in the area and showing customers how these improvements will benefit them," Pete said.

"Our popular cooking demonstrations will take place all day - so make sure you drop into the Country Energy marquee for a cuppa and some friendly energy advice," he said.

24th June 2010 Press Release

Fun for the whole family!

We've heard her on the radio, read her books and seen her on television. And on Saturday 7th August, you can meet Shannon Lush who will be at the 2010 "Country Energy" Nyngan Ag Expo. A familiar voice on the ABC, Shannon is well known as the cleaning and home hints guru with her name to books such as "Stainless","Spotless" and the "Lush House" DVD.

How does getting involved in The Vortex, Mirror Mirages, X-rays sleuth, Tornado Twister, Stomping Rockets, Gears gears gears, Gyro-Fly Wheels, Handstampers and Boomwhackers sound?

And if that's not enough see gigantic bubbles, flying toilet paper, hair-raising electricity experiments, bubbling liquid nitrogen demos, levitating beach balls, volunteers on a nail chair, a giant gyroscope, fire balls and much more!

Fizzics education was a hit with children and adults of all ages last year, and Ben will return to give two shows from 1pm to 1.30pm and again from 1.45pm until 4pm.

Gold sponsor the Bogan Shire Council's exhibit will be a "hot spot" for families again this year. This site will give Dads and Mums a chance to take a seat, while children enjoy playing with toys in the sandpit, get busy at the craft table, dabble in some colouring in, play with balloons and have their face painted all under the shade of the tent.

Fliers regarding the services provided by the Bogan Shire Council and the Bogan Bush Mobile's regular events in Collie, Duck Creek, Girilambone, Hermidale, Marra, Marthaguy, Nevertire, Nyngan, Quambone, Tottenham, Trangie and Warren will be available.

If your family loves camping and the great outdoors, visit the Dubbo Fishing and Outdoors exhibit. George Loudon of Dubbo Bait and Tackle said "Not only will we bring bait & tackle, but also kayaks, swags, yabby pots, opera house traps, drop pots, landing nets, tackle boxes, rods, rod holders, reels, lines, books, fishing & hunting DVDs, hunting accessories , apparel, sunglasses and electric motors."

The Nyngan Ag Expo's colouring in competition is open and entries are being sought from youngsters across our community. Entry forms are being distributed by primary schools throughout the district, with additional copies available from the Bogan Shire Council Library. Thank you to Carter, Lindsay & Webber for their continued support of this program.

A new bouncing castle will also be a highlight for young families. This one has a slippery slide and no doubt will be responsible for lots of fun, grins and giggles!

Families looking for information on educational opportunities will find the All Saints College and Kinross Wolaroi School exhibits most helpful.

A special thank you to the ladies from the Nyngan Golf Club, who will greet visitors as they arrive at the gate. Jenny Holmes, President of the Ladies Golf Club said "The golf associates are only too happy to be involved in the Ag Expo and we look forward to continuing our involvement in the years to come." The Expo Committee also wishes to extend its sincere thanks to the Nyngan SES who will manage vehicle parking on the day.

Shearing Museum & Antique Engines

Come along to the 2010 ‘Country Energy’ Nyngan Ag Expo to see the Shearing Museum and numerous antique engines carefully restored by local people from across the region.

On Saturday 7th August, antique engine and vehicle restoration expert Duckie Clemens of Tottenham will exhibit one of his many passions. This particular display demonstrates his skills, creativity and love of history, the Shearing Museum. In 1999 the Museum built on a bogie trailer, won the ‘Commercial Exhibit Award, Sheep & Wool Showcase’ at the Sydney Easter Show.

The Shearing Museum is made up of a series of rooms and doors which fold out from the trailer, a working model of the history of shearing. Dogs chasing sheep and workers in the process of shearing, it includes handpieces and tools of the trade which date from 1883 to the present day.

Roy Schneider of Wellington Antique Engines will bring his favourites from his collection of antique engines including a 1925 International M three horse power, 1942/1943 Moffat Virtue three horsepower, late 1940’s/early 1950’s Lister Junior with piston pump and a 1920’s Hercules 1.75 horsepower which is currently having some work undertaken on it, in preparation for the Expo.

Liam Maynard also of Wellington Antique Engines, recently restored his Moffat Virtue 2 ¼ horse power and will be included in the exhibit.

Gordon Wise of Warren has confirmed the inclusion of a Hornby four horsepower, and it is anticipated that other antique engine restorers from across the district may participate in the event with Lister, Fairbacks Moore and Cooper engines,

2009 ‘Country Energy’ Nyngan Ag Expo

A GREAT BIG DAY!

“It was a brilliant day with perfect weather, a big excited and enthusiastic crowd, just over 170 terrific exhibits, sponsors who were very supportive of our program and a team of helpers from our committee members, gate and parking attendants through to Barry and Rick who made sure the grounds were in perfect condition for the whole day” said Terry Tremain, chair of the 2009 ‘Country Energy’ Nyngan Ag Expo.

“On behalf of the Nyngan Ag Expo committee, I’d like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who participated in our big day!  Of course without the support of our community we wouldn’t be able to bring such an event together.  We have been rewarded with some incredibly positive feedback already and we hope that next year will be even bigger and better”

“Our major sponsor Country Energy included cooking demonstrations at their site and showed the heights they reach to ensure electricity supplies are resumed in our homes and businesses during storms and rough weather if a power outage occurs.  The Bogan Shire Council’s ‘Bogan Bush Mobile’ proved a welcome relief to families giving mums and dads a break while their young children had the chance to play in the sandpit.  Central West Catchment Management Authority had a terrific display of their projects and programs run across the region and the Outback Motor Inn’s “Food & Wine Experience” was delightful with some fantastic fare and wines.”

Don Lister, vice chairman said “The focal point of our Expo is of course agriculture and this year we were fortunate to have an award winner within our cattle section, Stephen & Amity Chase of Waitara Angus Stud who recently won the NSW Farmers ‘Young Farmer of the Year’ award.”

Tim McNee coordinator of the conservation farming area added “We also demonstrated the latest spray technology thanks to Sprayer Barn, and Chris Jones displayed his award winning design the “Twin Disc Drill” seeder.

Jamie Fisher, speaker coordinator said “Sandy Thorne presented to audiences on three occasions delving into authoring and choice of subject through to literary agents and your rights to your work.  Her book ‘Beyond the Razor Wire’ and work at Baxter and Curtin detention centres was given focus, and at the Food & Wine Experience her hilarious mixture of doggerel and poetry kept everyone laughing.”

“Meg Strang spoke to an audience eager to hear of her experiences from growing up in Nyngan and going to university in Sydney to working with 2WEB and then ABC radio.  Her work in country Queensland , Longreach, Darwin and Alice Springs , broadcasting and television experience, and following a dream to get back into the country, then settling in Dubbo with her husband and two children.”

Jenny Deacon, coordinator of the Antiques & Collectables section said “We were run off of our feet.  Gary Steele and Mary Lamph were inundated with queries and Gary kept extremely busy valuing a range of antique and collectable items which expo visitors brought in.  Gary has already begun making plans for next year, to increase the number of items on display.”

David Butler, ICPA and expo committee member said “The 30 minute ICPA Fashion Parade showcasing Brigid McLaughlin fashions and a range of children’s clothing drew over 120 people with some fantastic prizes given away.  The models did a wonderful job and our thanks to the ICPA members who each year work tirelessly to ensure a great event and to Brigid McLaughlin who garments are always admired.”

The Nyngan Ag Expo committee members will meet within the coming weeks to begin planning the 2010 event.  If anyone is interested in joining the team and/or becoming a committee member, please do not hesitate to contact Robyn Harris, Expo Coordinator by phoning 02 6832 1238.
